Wade Bergum’s outstanding and unselfish play on the pitch helped him to earn his first Hawks of the Week honor.
Bergum earned six points as the men’s soccer team went 2-0 during the week. Hilbert claimed a 3-1 victory over Thiel College mid-week and closed with a 3-2 win over Saint Vincent. The junior college transfer ran the midfield with poise setting up teammates for breakaway runs or created his own shots on frame.
The Angola native had a foot in every score against the Tomcats from Thiel. He stretched his frame to poke the ball over the end line in the third minute before he touch-passed Travis Hicks the ball for the game winner. In the second half Bergum used a soft pass up the middle for Nicolas Rodriguez’ first career goal. Four days later, Bergum elevated for a header to the back of the net lifting the Hawks to a 2-0 lead early in the game against Saint Vincent.
