Hilbert College Athletics

Michael Podgorny earned his first Hawk of the Week honor as the men’s volleyball team opened their season over the weekend at Wittenberg University.

The 5-10 sophomore outside hitter earned a spot on the Jim Coleman Invitational All-Tournament team after producing a 2.56 kills and 2.33 digs per set effort in Hilbert’s three matches. 

Podgorny collected 23 kills, 21 digs, a pair of service aces and three blocks earning three points per set. 

The Grand Island native posted his first double-double against Southern Virginia when he finished with 11 kills and 13 digs.  Hilbert suffered three-consecutive three-set losses also competing against Wittenberg and Cincinnati Christian Universities.

After the first weekend of play, Podgorny is ranked 5th in the AMCC in kills/set (2.56), kills (23), 3rd in digs/set (2.33).  The NEAC has not yet updated the 2017 season stats at the time of this posting.
