Joey Haynes Named Hilbert College Male Athlete of the Year

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Sophomore Joey Haynes has been named the Hilbert College Male Athlete of the Year, as selected by the Hawks' head coaches and support staff.

Haynes, a second baseman from Wheatfield, N.Y. (St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute | Canisius University), made an immediate impact in his debut season with the Hilbert Baseball program. Recognized both regionally and within the conference, he stood out as one of the top outfielders for the Hawks.

He earned ABCA/Rawlings All-Region 7 honors and was named to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) First Team All-Conference this spring. Haynes was also recognized as the AMCC Player of the Week on May 5.

The 5-foot-10 outfielder started 35 games and led the Hawks in several offensive categories. He posted a team-best .427 batting average, tallying 53 hits, 33 runs, and 20 RBIs—including seven doubles, one triple, and two home runs. Over 36 games, he struck out just eight times, drew 21 walks, and stole 17 bases.

Nationally, Haynes ranked 22nd in on-base percentage (.538) and struck out only once in 66 plate appearances during AMCC league play. His remarkable performance this season landed him among the top four in several Hilbert single-season records. In 2025, he ranked:
  • 2nd in on-base percentage
  • 3rd in batting average and hits
  • 4th in stolen bases and stolen base attempts
Off the field, Haynes also excelled academically. He was named to the AMCC Academic All-Conference Team and recognized as a Peak Performer (3.5+ GPA). Additionally, he earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors while pursuing a degree in Business Management.
