Hilbert Men's Track & Field Heading to Championship Weekend

The United East Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet will take place this weekend, May 4 and 5, with the AMCC sending four member schools to participate as affiliates.

Alfred State CollegeCarlow UniversityHilbert College and Penn State Behrend will all compete on the campus of Penn State Behrend for the 2024 championship meet.

The Alfred State College men's program is one of the youngest they've had in recent years, led by only three seniors and a fifth year. With seniors Brian Clark (400m), Davyn Gulbrandsen (Jav), and Eddie Scroxton (800m) all in position to battle for all-conference positions, and fifth-year Derek Walter (400IH) looks to defend his title, Alfred State will look to its underclassmen at this year's championships to contribute. Scroxton is closely followed by freshman Mamadou Barry in the 800m while sophomores Nick Florczak and Max Chiarella will be competitive in the 100m/200m and steeplechase, respectively. The entire throws group is freshmen outside of Gulbrandsen, and currently hold four out of the top six hammer positions. Horizontal jumps will be exciting for the Pios as junior Isaac Rivet and sophomore Aden Alexander are both ranked in the top five, and less than six inches away from the top spot in long jump.

The Carlow University men's track & field team is coming off a ninth-place finish at the USCAA National Championship April 27. Senior Bryan Pan led the way with a second-place finish in the 100 with a personal best time of 11.25. Pan ran 23.48 to place third in the 200 and broke his previous school record (set on April 13) in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.50 to finish fifth. Pan, who earned AMCC Athlete of the Week honors this season, ranks fifth in United East/AMCC in the 110-meter hurdles and seventh in the 400-meter hurdles. Gavin Moore tied his personal best leap of 5.86 meters to place fourth in long jump and ran 24.18 to finish fifth in the 200. Moore was also part of the 4x100 relay team of Walt KadaSangay Gurung and Pan that placed third with a time of 46.67. Moore earned AMCC Athlete of the Week honors this season and ranks in the top-15 in the United East/AMCC in the 200 and long jump. The 4x100 relay team of Walt Kada, Moore, Sangay Gurung and Pan rank ninth.

The Hilbert College men's track and field team has improved its depth in both field and track events this year.  Multiple athletes have broken onto the scene setting new program records while scoring points for the team in big events. The Hawks are eager to compete at the conference level and will be ready to run and jump when their number is called. Hilbert can enter a team in three relays (4x100, 4x400 and 4x800) and have program and are loaded in the field events with multiple record holders competing.  Ben Anderson (discus) and Noble Arterberry (shot put) are joined by Lemario Jones (high jump), Zy'Mere Covington (triple jump), and Zai'Mar Covington (long jump) in the field events. Zai'Mar Covington stole the Hilbert record in the 100M dash from his brother, Zy'Mere who owns the 200M record.  Jason Vullo is a strong competitor for the Hawks in teh 400M and Nick Baritot leads the Hawks around the track in the 800M and 1500M.

The Behrend men's outdoor track & field team competed in six meets prior to the United East Outdoor Championships. Senior thrower Dan Dabrowski set a new school record in the discus with a throw of 170-2 at the John Papa Invitational. On his sixth throw of the day, Dabrowski notched his record-setting distance, surpassing his previous record of 167-9 set last season at Mount Union. During this meet, Samuel Hetrick also delivered a first-place height of 6-6 in the high jump. Dabrowski won in the discus at all six meets for the Lions, earning an AARTFC qualifying mark of 167-07 to start the outdoor season at Carnegie Mellon. Hetrick was victorious in three meets in the high jump, scoring an AARTFC qualifying height of 6-4 ¾ at Westminster. Kody Klein ran an AARTFC qualifying time at Carnegie Mellon of 1:55.51 in the 800m en route to a fourth-place finish.
