Men's Track & Field Team Awards Announced

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Athletics under the direction of Athletic Director Tim Seil, announced the 2023-24 Individual Team Awards winners and today we recognized the Men's Track and Field Award winners.

2023-24 Men's Track and Field under the direction of Robert Krug.

In year two of the Track and Field program, this group of athletes continued to rewrite the Hilbert Men's Track and Field record book on a weekly basis. The men's team scored the program's first points at

the University of Buffalo Alumni Invite and then went on to record 29 points at the program's very first league championship meet.  The Hawks broke five records at the United East Conference championship meet hosted by Penn State Behrend on May 4th and 5th.  Zy'Mere Covington, Nazir Mckelley combined for 12 points in the triple jump, and they both earned additional points in the 100m dash and 110 hurdles, respectively. Zai'Mar Covington, Da'Von Cockrell, and Nick Baritot each scored a point for the Hawks while the 4x100 relay team (Zai'Mar and Zy'Mere Covington, Da'Von Cockrell and Lemario Jones) carried the Hawks to a 4th place finish in the relay.

Coaches Award: Jamal Harris Jr..  Jamal is an incredibly hard worker and pleasure to coach.  He was willing to run where ever the team needed him to and the coaching staff was very appreciative of his willingness to help.  He was a tremendous competitor on the track and has completely changed the type of runner that he was in high school where he only focused on the sprints.

Most Improved Runner: Jason Vullo.  Jason joined the track team at the start of the outdoor season and quickly made an impression.  He followed up his outstanding play on the soccer pitch by being a natural in the 400-meter dash.  His 53.16 time set the new program record in the 400-m and helped the 4x400 team score points at the United East Championships while setting a new program record.

Most Valuable Runner: Zy'Mere Covington. Zy'Mere was the jack of all trades for the Hawks this year.  He scored the program's first points in University of Rochester Alumni Invite and made steady improvements in his times and distances as the spring season progressed. Zy'Mere established program records in the 100-meter dash (11.25), the triple jump (13.01m) and was the second leg in the 4X100 record setting relay (44.20) at the United East Conference Championship. He was named a UEC All-Conference athlete for his 2nd place finish in the triple jump at the championship meet.
