The AMCC Baseball Games of the Week feature Pitt-Greensburg and Hilbert College, both with 1-1 records in conference play.Â
The Bobcats are coming into their second AMCC series of the season after splitting with Penn State Altoona last Sunday. Pitt-Greensburg boasts a high-powered offense and a pitching staff that is doing more than enough to stack wins. Freshman Colin Solinski ranks fourth in the nation with a .533 batting average and fellow freshman Nate Mankoski is No. 1 in Division III with a 0.35 ERA. Mankoski was named AMCC Pitcher of the week on Monday for his performances last week. The Bobcats also rank third in Division III as a team with a .368 batting average.
The 2023 Hilbert baseball team is off the fastest start in the program's Division III history. They boast a 12-9 overall record, while sitting at 1-1 in conference play after splitting with Pitt-Bradford last weekend. The Hawks enjoy their time at the plate, having recorded 36 doubles, 12 triples and nine home runs. Then when on base, they are credited with 45 stolen bases which has led to 127 runs scored with 115 RBIs. Individually, junior OF Thomas Evans (March 27 AMCC Player of the Week) leads the team with 31 hits (.388), 25 runs, six doubles, four triples, five home runs and 10 stolen bases. Senior Patrick Whelan trails right behind with 29 hits, eight doubles, five triples and three home runs. Juniors Jack Duffek (.294) and Jairo Santos (.323) have been big lifts and Emmanuel McClain is a smart baserunner having scored 15 runs. The Hawks have won three walk-off wins and are riding a 7-2 record over the last nine games. Two Hawk pitchers carry a positive record, led by junior Brendan Walsh's (March 13 AMCC Pitcher of the Week) three wins and league leading five saves. Freshman Brennen Hediger is 3-1 through 23 innings while senior Michael Contini has covered 29 innings with a1-2 record.
