Whelan Named To D3baseball All-Region 7 Team

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The postseason honors continue to roll in for Hilbert College designated hitter Patrick Whelan (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon) this morning as he was selected to the D3baseball.com All-Region 7 Second Team.

Prior to the season, Whelan was named to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA DIII Players To Watch List after leading the AMCC in OPS in 2021, which earned him Third Team All-Conference honors. This spring, Whelan was a First Team All-Conference selection while serving as the Hawks designated hitter. The Buffalo native hit .357 with 12 extra base hits, including three home runs, and finished with an impressive 1.028 OPS. He set new single-season program records in runs batted in (32) and number of times hit by a pitch (12) over 32 games started. Whelan had strong performances in the Hawks two postseason games as well, reaching base safely in four of his six plate appearances, including a line drive home run, to earn AMCC All-Tournament Team honors as well.

Four AMCC players in total earned All-Region 7 honors this spring. Penn State Behrend second basemen Zack Bowen, Alfred State outfielder Matteo Avallone and Mount Aloysius utility man Tyler Quade each joined Whelan in earning this prestigious honor.

Hilbert had its most decorated spring in program history setting new team records in overall wins (16) and AMCC win percentage (.500) while earning their fourth AMCC postseason berth over the past six league seasons.
