HAMBURG, N.Y. – Four Hilbert College baseball players were named to the AMCC All-Conference teams earlier today by the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
Junior
Patrick Whelan was named to the first team,
Griffin McAndrews was named to the second team, and
Thomas Evans and
John Riviere-Vejas earned third team honors.
Mount Aloysius swept the awards after being crowned conference champions this past weekend. Freshman Tyler Quade swept the individual honors by earning Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors while head coach Kevin Kime was named the AMCC Coach of the Year.
Patrick Whelan (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon) was a First Team All-Conference selection after a stellar season as the Hawks designated hitter. Prior to the season, Whelan was named to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA DIII Players To Watch List after leading the AMCC in OPS in 2021, which earned him Third Team All-Conference honors. This spring, the Buffalo native hit .357 with 12 extra base hits, including three home runs, and finished with an impressive 1.028 OPS. The 2022 AMCC All-Tournament Team selection also set new single-season program records in runs batted in (32) and hit by pitch (12) over 32 games started.
Griffin McAndrews (Hamburg, NY/West Seneca West) earned Second Team All-Conference honors after leading the AMCC in regular season league play in ERA (0.90) and saves (3). The right-hander finished the season with a 2.49 ERA over 21.2 innings pitched in eight appearances out of the bullpen. McAndrews ended the year with a 2-1 record and tied the single season program saves record (3).
Thomas Evans (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) was named to the Third Team All-Conference after leading the Hawks in multiple offensive categories this spring. The first basemen led the Hawks in batting average (.387), slugging percentage (.591), OPS (1.054) and doubles (10), and his 17 stolen bases was the third most in the league. Evans finished the spring with 13 extra base hits over 27 games started. His strong play earned him Team Most Valuable Player honors.
John Riviere-Vejas (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Loughlin) garnered Third Team All-Conference honors for his stellar play as the Hawks primary leadoff man. The second basemen hit .350 with nine extra base hits and tied the single season program record in runs scored (35) while serving as the spark plug for the Hawks offense. The Brooklyn native was electric on the bases. He led the AMCC and set a new single season program record with 29 stolen bases while finishing 10th in the nation in stolen bases per game (0.83).
Hilbert had its most decorated spring in program history setting new team records in overall wins (16) and AMCC win percentage (.500) while earning their fourth AMCC postseason berth over the past six league seasons.
