Four Hawks Named Collegiate Baseball Newspaper DIII Players To Watch

HAMBURG, N.Y. - The Hilbert College baseball team had four players named to the 2021 NCAA Division III Players to Watch List announced by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Magazine.

Seniors Zachary Crane (Auburn, NY/Union Springs) and Ian Moran (Fort Drum, NY/Richmond Hill), junior Jonathan Wilson (Brant, NY/Lake Shore) and sophomore Josh McTigue (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) all received national recognition, tying Penn State Behrend for the most in the AMCC.

Crane has been a mainstay at the top of the Hawks rotation since the day he stepped foot on campus. The right-hander is on pace to rewrite the record books here at Hilbert as he currently sits in the Top 5 All-Time in nine different pitching categories. In 2020, Crane was off to a hot start, posting a 2-0 record with a 0.69 ERA and 12 strikeouts through two starts, after leading the AMCC in complete games (5) during his sophomore season. The Auburn, NY native enters his senior season eyeing multiple program records, as he looks to lead the Hawks back to the postseason.

Moran enters his 5th season sporting the royal and white as the programs All-Time leader in stolen bases (38) and hit by pitches (28). The Hawks designated hitter has had an outstanding career to date, posting a .438 on base percentage with 63 runs scored over 97 career starts. Moran was off to a strong start in 2020, batting .400 with a .500 on base percentage and added his first career home run, through 9 games played.

Wilson has been a force offensively for the Hawks. Through 41 career games (36 starts), the Brant, NY native has registered a .361 batting average and .538 slugging percentage, adding 15 extra base hits, 29 RBI and 26 runs scored. The Hawks second basemen was on pace for a record-breaking sophomore campaign having posted a .436 batting average and .846 slugging percentage, while notching 10 extra base base hits, 11 RBI and 12 runs scored through just 11 games a season ago.

McTigue enters his second season on the Hawks pitching staff. In 2020, he posted a 3.86 ERA with 9 strikeouts through two starts. The right-hander has made tremendous strides over the past year and will be looked upon to log meaningful innings for the Hawks this spring.

"I couldn't be happier for Zach, Ian, Jon and Josh," said head coach Drew Fittry. "This is a tremendous honor for each of them. They're outstanding student-athletes that will be relied upon for their leadership and play this spring."
