HAMBURG, N.Y. - For the first time this season, there will be $1.00 admissions charge at the door when the Hawks host Medaille College Wednesday, February 4.
The Hilbert College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has joined forces with the other 9 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's SAACs this winter.
All AMCC committees have been working together in a SAAC for SOCKS community service campaign collecting winter socks, gloves, and hats which will be donated to local homeless shelters across the region.
Socks are an extremely high-need item for homeless people, especially during the winter months, when there is the risk of frostbite. Homeless people often have shoes but no socks, and the danger often goes unnoticed until it is too late.
While men's warm socks tend to be a high-need item, donations of socks, hats and gloves for any gender, any age are all very welcome.
Fans who bring new, unused (still in package) pair of socks, gloves or hats will be admitted free of charge, along with Hilbert students with ID.
Hilbert's SAAC will also be selling chances to win gift cards during half time of both games. All winter-weather gear will be delivered to the Buffalo City Mission this coming weekend before the next cold snap hits.
The Hilbert College community has come together to make this a special night for collections: Residence Life, Student Activities, Hallmark Dining Services and the Hilbert Starz will be hosting a pre-game Tailgate Party in the Campus Center dining hall beginning at 4pm. All students are welcome to attend the festivities and are encouraged to help create a great atmosphere in the Hafner Recreation Center when the Hawks take on the Mavericks.
The 6pm game features the 11-2, top ranked Hilbert women against the current 5th seed Mavericks (6-7). The Hawks claimed a 59-46 first round victory led by
Taylor Corts' 21 points (5-for-11 from 3-pt) and
Katelyn Proy's nine points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. Breanna Walker led the Mavericks with 10 points and three steals.
The 2-11 Hilbert men dropped a heart breaking 99-94 overtime loss in North Buffalo with their last meeting on January 16. Three Hilbert players notched 20+ points with
Joseph Braniecki leading the charge hitting 11-of-16 from the field for 23 points.
Nicholas Parucki knocked in 20 points and
Hunter Martineau earned his first career triple double scoring 20 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing for 10 helpers. Norman Hughes launched 15 shots that night, all from beyond the 3-point arc, and connected on 11 of them to lead all scorers with 33 points for Medaille (9-4).
The
HawksNest will be packed with fans in black shirts - so make sure you dig your color-appropriate gear out of your drawers and Head the the Hafner February 6.
