BUFFALO, N.Y. – Four different Hawks connected for big hits pushing Hilbert College to a 4-1 victory over Medaille College in baseball May 2.  The final win of the season followed an opening 3-1 loss to the Mavericks at McCarthy Park in a non-conference set of games.  Hilbert finished the season 6-26 overall while Medaille dropped to 14-21 overall.

Hilbert jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning of the opening game when Michael Voveris drove in Kevin Moore for the Hawks only run of the game.  Medaille responded in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 1-1.   The score remained even until the bottom of the fourth when the hosts scored two runs off back-to-back doubles.  Neither team found home again the rest of the way setting the 3-1 score in the book.

Kevin Moore went 2 for 3 with the runs scored.  Paul Wujek and Noah Rasnik were the other two Hawks who posted hits on the day.

Sal Carroccia covered the complete game striking out two with only one walk.  The Mavericks found five hits off the rookie pitcher.  Hilbert faced a hot hurler from the home team as Zach Machmer gave up four hits and unearned run and struck out seven.

Hilbert took a 4-0 lead in the nightcap to set the tone for the final game of the season.  The Hawks planted one run in the first inning when the third batter, Ryan Bonafede, hit in Paul Wujek who trotted home after he led off with the team's first double of the afternoon.

Hilbert returned to the plate and started running the bases the next inning.  John Babocsi's single got him to second when Michael Best grounded out.  But Sean McGrath moved him to third once his single was collected in the field.  Spencer Sticek notched a single RBI but was tagged out on the next play when Wujek reached on a fielder's choice.  McGrath posted the second run of the inning during that defensive stop.

A three-up, three-down inning for Matt Goraj kept the Medaille offense in check and when Hibert picked up their bats again, Justin Crawley started with a double, followed by Bonafede's double RBI.

Medaille found the home plate only once in the game and it occurred in the bottom of the third.  After that, neither team connected hits together for runs on the board.

Goraj went 4 full innings and gave the game ball to Hulbert in the bottom of the fifth who  earned the save on the mound.

Crawley went 2 for 4 with a double as did Bonafede.  Spencer Sticek joined the double club knocking in a run.  Bonafede led the quad with 2RBIs.

Matt Goraj claimed his first win giving up seven hits with one strike out.  Justin Hulbert went three innings with two strike outs to keep the victory in the bag.
