WEST SENECA, N.Y. – Playing their last AMCC game of the season, the Hilbert College baseball team picked up another league win when they cruised to a 14-1 victory over D'Youville College April 27.  The Spartans claimed their first AMCC win when they rallied to a 9th inning come-from-behind 7-4 win at Veterans Memorial Park in West Seneca.

Sal Carroccia pitched a complete 7-inning opening game giving up one earned run off seven hits while striking out five.  Paul Wujek was 2 for 3 with 2RBIs and scored three times with some help offensively from Ryan Bonafede who went 2 for 4 and added 4RBIs.  Carroccia chipped in two scored runs with a double-bagger along the way.

Hilbert took an early 2-0 lead by the top of the 3rd thanks to Anthony Wurstner and Carroccia's runs earned off a D'Youville error and wild pitch.  The Hawks added two more runs in the fourth off a Bonafede sac fly that pushed Noah Rasnik home and a stolen home by Wujek who was part of a double steal.

Hilbert had a big 5th inning as they sent 10 players to the plate.  Wujek had a two-run double and Bonafede produced a two-run single.  Tom Irish and Kevin Moore added two more runs to push Hilbert's lead to 10-1.  The offensive onslaught continued into the sixth as the Hawks tacked on four more runs for the 14-1 final.

D'Youville ended their 19-game losing streak in the night cap, claiming their first AMCC victory this season in the second game of the double header after fighting back from a 4-0 deficit.

The Hawks built their lead early when they scored a pair of runs in both the second and third innings.  Michael Best's sac fly sent Moore home and after John Babocsi got to second base on his double, he made it home thanks to Michael Vogel's RBI hit.  Wujek was credited with a double just before Wurstner hit the Hawks first homerun of the season in the third inning.  After that jump, the Spartan's pitching core took over and shut down the visitors.

Justin Crawley was cruising through three innings holding the Spartans scoreless with just four hits. But D'Youville hit back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the fourth to score their first run.  The Spartans hitting luck continued and when the scored flipped to 4-3, Tyler Roth entered the game on the mound.  The sophomore pitcher gave up a sac fly which knotted the game at 4-4 heading into the 5th inning.

Hilbert's biggest threat was in the top of the seventh when the Hawks had runners on first and second with one out.  D'Youville turned a double play to get out of the inning unscathed.

Roth cruised through the next three innings giving up one hit and striking out five.

The Spartans won the game on a one-out, three-run homerun over the right field fence in the bottom of the ninth to complete their come-back win.
