MARCY, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's volleyball team is working on a three-game winning streak, for the first time in this year's senior class' four-year career, after they breezed through the Gold Bracket in the SUNYIT Invitational Tournament today to improve to 3-3 overall.
The Hawks claimed sounding victories in three-sets over Mount Ida at 10 am and then Elms at 2pm. Hilbert improved to 3-3 overall as
Adam Weaver returned to the head of the class in Division III men's volleyball. The senior Outside Hitter finished with 49 kills (8.17 kills per set) on the day.
Hilbert won the first game (25-23,25-22,25-19) at the net, out-hitting Mount Ida, (.280) attack percentage vs. (-.021) percent. The Hawks were credited with 37 team kills, 37 assists, 31 digs and 4 solo blocks. The only advantage Mount Ida held over the Hawks were the 5 service aces.
Weaver was the primary target for
Adam Heftka who finished with half the Hawks' attempts at the net (43 of 82). Heftka's 34 assists set the tone for the match wtih Weaver credited with 25 kills.
Korey Schwab added 5 kills and 10 digs, just one less than
Ryan Ratajczak's game-high 11.
All eleven Hawks had a hand in the 25-13,25-19,25-16 dismantaling of Elms. Each player found a way to add a stat to the record book pushing the Hawks to their second victory today and third overall all this year. Weaver added 25 more kills to his career total and for the second straight game, Ratajczak and Schwab earned 11 and 10 digs respectively.
The Hawks return to action this week when they host their home opener Wednesday, January 29th against AMCC foe Penn State Behrend at 7pm.
