HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Athletics and Associate Vice President for Student Life & Director of Athletics Tim Seil  is excited to announce the hiring of Mary Rupp as the new head coach of the Hawks men's and women's volleyball programs.

Rupp returns to the Hawks with an extensive coaching background, deep ties to Hilbert College, and a decorated playing career.

"We are thrilled to welcome Mary Rupp back to Hilbert College in a full-time role," said Seil. "Mary has already demonstrated a strong commitment to our student-athletes and brings valuable experience, leadership, and passion to our department. Her knowledge of our institution and dedication to student-athlete success will be instrumental to both programs she oversees. We are excited to have her back and look forward to the positive impact she will continue to make at Hilbert."

Rupp is no stranger to Hilbert Athletics, having previously served as head women's volleyball coach with the Hawks during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. She now returns to lead both volleyball programs.

Most recently, Rupp served as head coach at Pembroke High School from 2019 through 2025. She also gained extensive club volleyball experience with CADO Volleyball Club from 2022 to 2025 before joining Shamrock's Volleyball Club for the 2025-26 season.

As a student-athlete at Canisius College from 2003 to 2007, Rupp compiled one of the most accomplished careers in Golden Griffins volleyball history. A three-time All-MAAC selection, she earned MAAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2003, was named to the All-MAAC Second Team in 2005, garnered All-MAAC First Team recognition in 2006, and earned a spot on the 2006 MAAC All-Tournament Team.

Rupp still holds Canisius' career attack percentage record among players with at least 500 kills, posting an impressive .309 hitting percentage. She also ranks fourth in program history with 1,286 career kills, including a remarkable 441 kills during her senior season.

Her accomplishments on the court have been recognized with induction into the Canisius Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017 and the Clarence Athletic Wall of Fame in 2021.
