Hilbert College Athletics

The athletics department would like to honor the captains of each of the fall sports programs by designating them as Hawks of the Week.  These team captains provided leadership on and off the field of competition this semester, keeping their teammates mentally and physically involved in skill improvement and cultural connection.

Men's soccer head coach Jeff Hallenbeck announced a pair of junior defenders, Stephen Wetherell and Sebastian Flewellyn, as this year's captains.  They earned the leadership role based on their positive attitudes, commitment to and involvement within the program.  Flewellyn and Wetherell have served as role models, been vocal leaders on an off the field, have taken charge of group activities, and have held their teammates accountable.

Stephen Wetherell (Brooklyn, CT/Killingly) is another two-year starter on the back line for Hilbert.  The 2018 men's soccer Most Valuable Player has also been on the pitch with every kick-off since he arrived in August 2018.  Wetherell is credited with one shot in his collegiate career but has broken up multiple opponent scoring opportunities over the course of his 29-game career to date.  He has been named to the AMCC All-Sportsmanship Team each fall and added the team's Coaches Award to his resume before the start of his third season.  Wetherell, who has achieved an incredibly impressive 4.0 grade point average after four semesters, is a two-time Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Academic All-Conference member and twice earned a Peak Performer honor.
