Balanced Attack Powers Hawks Past Mount Aloysius

 HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert Men's Volleyball battled back from an opening set loss to defeat Mount Aloysius, 3-1, Friday evening inside the Hafner Recreation Center in AMCC action.

With the win, the Hawks improve to 5-19 overall and 3-8 in conference play, matching Mount Aloysius in the league standings.

After dropping a tightly contested first set (25-23), Hilbert responded in a big way, taking the next three sets 25-18, 26-24, and 25-18 to secure the four-set victory on their home floor.

The Hawks were powered by a dominant offensive showing from Nikolas D'Andrea, who totaled a match-high 23 kills while hitting an impressive .528. D'Andrea also contributed across the board with four assists, three service aces, and five digs in a well-rounded performance.

Justin Veal provided another major offensive boost, recording 16 kills on a blistering .577 hitting percentage, while Michael Pozzuto added seven kills and led the team defensively with 16 digs.

Running the offense, Mehkai Francis dished out 43 assists and chipped in 13 digs to record a double-double, helping the Hawks hit .300 as a team for the match.

Defensively, Hilbert totaled 59 digs, with Jacob Sehn adding 13 and Francis matching that total. At the net, Xavier Edwards led the blocking effort with two blocks.

As a team, the Hawks found their rhythm after the first set, improving their hitting efficiency in three of the four frames, including a .423 mark in the second set and .394 in the fourth to close out the match.

Hilbert finished with advantages in kills (56-54), assists (54-47), and digs (59-48), while also using timely runs to pull away in each of the final three sets.

The Hawks will look to carry the momentum into tomorrow's final match of the season when they host Penn State Altoona at 1pm April 4th.
