HAMBURG, N.Y. - The Athletics Department is pleased to announce the Hilbert College Athletes of the Week for April 20, 2026.  

Madison Esmond (Softball) and Eric Capling (Men's Lacrosse) were recognized for their athletic performances during their respective team's run last week. 

Madison Esmond (Akron, NY/Kenmore East | Fredonia State) led the Hawks' offense with a standout performance over a double header defeat to Penn State Behrend April 17.  The 5-8 slapper went 3-for-6 (.500) with a double, and a home run, which resulted in all three of Hilbert's RBIs while posting a 1.167 slugging percentage.  Esmond went 2-for-3, recording a double and inside the park home run in the opening game, the biggest game of her Hilbert career.  

Eric Capling (Barrie, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic) delivered a dominant performance in the men's lacrosse solo contest last week against Alfred State College.  The 6- freshman attackmen put the team on his shoulders offensively.  Capling's efforts to create scoring opportunities were impressive as he pivoted around and split defenders, while running through and over Pioneers so that he could get a look at the goal.  He led the Hawks with his second hat trick of the season, scoring three unassisted goals to finish with four hits on the day.
