Mike Carbery Named the Sal Buscaglia Coach of the Year

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Mike Carbery has been named the 2025 Hilbert College | Sal Buscaglia Coach of the Year, recognizing a season of historic milestones for the Hawks.

In his eighth season at the helm, Carbery guided the Hawks to their first-ever appearance in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship Game, while mentoring five All-Conference selections, including the Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Hilbert closed the 2025 season with a 5-8 overall record and a 1-2 mark in AMCC play. As the No. 3 seed, the Hawks delivered a thrilling 7-6 overtime win against Pitt-Bradford in the AMCC semifinals, before falling to top-seeded Alfred State in the title match.

Throughout the season, the Hawks secured dominant wins over Thiel College, La Roche University, and Elmira College, and hit their stride with a strong late-season victory at Bryn Athyn. One of the year's most memorable moments came in lopsided Senior Day victory over the Soaring Eagles when Joey DiMaria set a new single game scoring record after recording 10 goals.

Under Carbery's leadership, the team set a new single-season program record with 12.00 caused turnovers per game, and led the AMCC in fewest goals allowed, lowest goals-against average, and save percentage.

Individual achievements were equally impressive. Senior attackman Joey DiMaria became Hilbert's all-time leader in shots on goal and set a single-game scoring record, while senior goalie Griffin Miller continued to build on his career records in saves and saves per game.

Carbery, along with assistant coaches Seth Gregg and Matthew Kennedy, helped three players earn AMCC Player of the Week honors during the season and guided seniors Griffin Miller (Co-Defensive Player of the Year), Joey DiMaria, Jason Sage, and Mason Shehadi as well as junior Kristopher Newman to AMCC All-Conference honors.
