HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference released the 2025 Men's Volleyball Postseason honors this morning and, for the first time in program history, three Hilbert Hawks were recognized as All-Conference selections.
Hilbert senior Tyler Hassell was named to the First Team and seniors Brad Converse and George Muriel landed on the Second Team rounding out the 14-man All-Conference teams.
After Buffalo State University went undefeated in the regular season and postseason tournament, the Bengals grabbed two of the three top honors. Malichi Jackson was named the Player of the Year and Daniel Miranda was tabbed the Coach of the Year while Penn State Altoona's rookie Caleb Fries was named the Newcomer of the Year.
Hassell, a 6'3 middle blocker from Angola, NY, led the AMCC in league-only games with 14 service aces and was third in hitting percentage (.383), block solo, points (79.5), fourth in service aces per set (0.56) and total blocks (17). After a two-year career at Medaille, Hassell settled into the starting line up at Hilbert and finished his senior year pacing the Hawks with 2.95 points per set (191.5 points), attack percentage (.362) and second in service aces (24). He added 52 digs and 43 total blocks (12 solo). Hassell recorded a season-high 16 kills against Penn State Altoona with a .571 attack percent against Houghton, four service aces against Houghton, seven digs against Mount Aloysius, and six total blocks against Wilkes.
Converse, a 6-2 outside hitter, recorded his third consecutive all-conference honor and established the new Hilbert Men's Volleyball Service Ace record with 99 aces. Converse appeared in a team-high 79 sets and was just one of three Hawks to have played in all 22 matches this year. The senior captain led the Hawks with 224 points, 192 kills, 2.43 kills/set, and added 140 digs, 19 total blocks (7 solo). He finished his fourth season as a Hawk leading the AMCC in league-only games with six solo blocks while ranking fourth in digs (52), and fifth in total attacks. Converse recorded a season-high 19 kills against SUNY Potsdam with a .529 attack percent against Elmira, three service aces against Wilson, 16 digs against Penn State Altoona, and four total blocks against Houghton.
Muriel, a 6-1 setter from Hamburg, NY who arrived at Hilbert after stops at Medaille and Buffalo State, served as the Hawks' primary setter for most of the season. He started 73 sets and paced the Hawks with 452 assists (6.19 assists/set) and finished second on the team with 150 digs (2.05), a team-best 21 solo blocks while recording 45 total blocks. Muriel ranked second in league-only games in block solo (5), fourth in assists (145) and fifth in assists per set (5.80). He recorded a season-high seven kills against SUNY Poly, 42 assists against Penn State Behrend, four service aces against Houghton, 14 digs against Penn State Altoona, twice recorded four solo blocks (Chatham and Hood) and added six total blocks against Hood.
Four Single Season records were broken by the 2025 Hawks (10-12 | 3-3 AMCC): Service Aces (142), Aces/Set (1.73), Solo Blocks (81) and Points/Set (13.10).
