Morse, Ellis, and Briggs Earn All-Conference Honors

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference released the 2024-25 Men's Basketball Postseason honors this morning and three Hilbert Hawks were recognized as All-Conference selections.

After a 14-2 regular season, and Conference Championship win over Penn State Altoona, Pitt-Bradford received both Player of the Year (Jamarion Butler) and Coach of the Year (Jesse DeLoof) honors. The other two major awards went to the Lions as Dwayne Jones earned his third consecutive Defensive Player of the Year award, while freshman Kal-El Gentles was named Newcomer of the Year.

Hilbert Sophomore Larry Morse (First Team) and Senior Shaheem Ellis (Second Team) were each awarded with their first career postseason honors while Quran Briggs adds a Third-Team nod to his 2022-2023 First-Team selection.

Ellis (4th in AMCC with 18.1 ppg), Morse (7th in AMCC with 17.3 ppg) and Briggs (8th in AMCC with 16.5 ppg) led the Hawks all season as the trio contributed to over half of the Hilbert scoring this season. On the backs of their statistical leaders, the Hawks returned to AMCC postseason play this year after a 14-11 (7-9 in the AMCC) campaign.

Morse, a 6'5 forward from Endicott, NY, improved in every statistic from his freshman year, while finding himself ranked on multiple national and conference lists. The sophomore finished the year sixth in all of Division III with 4.27 offensive boards per game and 15th in the country with 13 double-doubles. His near double-double average of 18.4 points and 9.9 rebounds per game in conference play saw him end the year first in the AMCC in total rebounds (156), offensive rebounds (69) and rebounds per game. Morse posted season and career highs in points (30), rebounds (15), blocks (three), and steals (three) against the eventual AMCC Champion Panthers on the road.

Ellis, a 5'10 guard from Rochester, NY, paced the offense of the Hawks all season as he posted career bests in points per game (17.6), assists per game (5.2) and rebounds per game (4.1). His 5.5 assists per game and 17.5 points per game in conference play saw him ranked first and seventh respectively. Ellis ended the season with 129 assists which placed him 25th in all of Division III. The senior floor general posted a standout 26-point, eleven assist (career-high) effort on the Hawks' home floor in a triple-overtime thriller against Bradford and finished his final campaign with a career-high, 28 points against Pitt-Greensburg on senior day.

Briggs, a 6'3 guard from Chance, MD, is no stranger to AMCC honors as he adds this year's Third-Team honors to a 2023-24 Preseason Player of the Year nod as well as a 2022-23 First-Team All-Conference Selection. Briggs tossed in 15.7 points per game for the Hawks while posting career highs in rebounds per game (4.5), assists per game (2.4), and total three pointers made (29). He ends his career fourth on the program's all-time points list with 1,567 and second in total field goals made with 602. Briggs recorded his career-high 34 points on 14-20 shooting against Pitt-Bradford on February 5th, and ended his career with 17-point effort against Penn State Altoona in the first round of the AMCC Tournament.

This season marks the first time since 2017-2018 the Hawks have three student-athletes earn All-Conference Team selections, while it is the first time since the 2015-2016 campaign Hilbert is represented on each of the three All-Conference Teams.
