The Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) around the AMCC have voted on and selected the 2023 FAR Award Winners.
Hilbert College swept the 2023 this spring after Zach Miller and Abigail Dent were selected by the eight FARs in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
Zach Miller and Abigail Dent were chosen from among 18 outstanding student-athletes named to the AMCC All-Academic Team, earning the prestigious honor after a successful four years in the classroom, in the community, and in their respective sport.Â
Zach Miller graduated in May 2023 with a 4.0 in Legal Studies. He was a four-time AMCC Academic All-Conference member and AMCC Peak Performer. He is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and will continue his education at the University of Buffalo's Law School. Miller was a guard on the Hawks' men's basketball team, and was a consummate team leader both on and off the court. He became the program's all-time leader with a 46-percent three-point percentage at the conclusion of his four-year career. Miller appeared in 23 games in 2022-23, made 16 starts and averaged 22.3 minutes, and 8.3 points per game while hitting .430 from the field. He is a three-time recipient of the Coaches Award, as selected by his coaching staff. He was the treasurer of the Hilbert Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for two years. Miller was awarded the 2023 McGrath Award, which is awarded to a male and female graduating student-athlete who has demonstrated exemplary achievement both academically and athletically while at Hilbert.Â
Abigail Dent gradated in May with a 3.94 GPA with a bachelors degree in Forensic Science/Crime Scene Investigation. She was a four-time member of the AMCC Academic All-Conference Team and a four-time AMCC Peak Performer while also being inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society. She was a three sport student-athlete at Hilbert, participating in softball and women's cross country and track & field. She raced in every cross country meet this past fall, placing 15th at the Daniel Walker Invitational and 18th at the Meghan Memorial race. She was a two-time recipient of the Coaches Award for cross country, and also picked up the same honor for softball in addition to being named to the AMCC All-Sportsmanship Softball Team. Dent served as a resident assistant, a student ambassador, was Vice President of the Student Government Association and was an active member of the Hilbert SAAC all four years. She too was also awarded the McGrath Award for demonstrating exemplary achievement both academically and athletically while at Hilbert College.Â
This year's dual honor marks the second time two Hilbert student-athletes have swept the FAR Awards. John Babosci (Baseball) and Natalie Whitman (Basketball and Softball) were named the 2014 AMCC Far Award recipients at the conclusion of their respective three-year, 4.0 cumulative grade point average careers as a Hawk.
