BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's volleyball team swept their NEAC league opponents in matches played at D'Youville College today as part of the AMCC vs. NEAC Challenge.
The Hawks started the day with a first set-loss to Keuka, but then turned up their efforts and took three straight for the 3-1 victory. After a brief break in play, Hilbert was able to stay in control and swept Morrisville in a quick 3-0 match to end the day 2-0.
Sophomore
Amanda Binder, the 2013 AMCC Newcomer of the Year player, paced the Hawks with 21 kills and a (.378) attack percentage. Fellow Buckeye,
Morgan Ott, chipped in 14 kills but added 16 assists and eight service aces.
Junior
Chelsea Adamski and Binder were each credited with four service aces on the day. And senior
Kayla Lewis passed for double digit assists (12) and added 11 digs.
Senior
Jordan Botsford led the Hawks with 18 digs which was good for 2.57 digs per set. Sophomore
Crystal Swanson gave a good defensive effort tallying four total blocks and shared team-high 2 solo blocks with Adamski.
The Hilbert/Keuka match was an exciting way to start the day. Keuka claimed a 25-23 opening set win before Hilbert rallied for 25-22, 25-18, 25-23 close set victories. By the time the Hawks faces Morrisville, they were fired up for another win. Hilbert went 25-16, 25-22 and 25-14 putting the match away in about sixty minutes.
D'Youville College also took both matches against the NEAC institutions giving the AMCC a 4-0 record today.
The Hawks have a few days to prepare for another non-conference match, this time against a SUNYAC league opponent when they travel to Geneseo September 3.
