BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Hawks opened the 2026 season Tuesday evening with a non-conference matchup against Buff State, falling in three sets at the Sports Arena.
Despite the setback, Hilbert saw several players contribute across the lineup in the season opener. Jazzelle McLean paced the Hawks' offense with a team-high five kills while posting a .235 hitting percentage and adding a block assist.
Defensively, Jordan Austin and Jade Schiller led the way with nine digs apiece as Hilbert totaled 34 digs in the match. Lindsay Madigan directed the offense with nine assists while also contributing three kills and four digs.
Hilbert recorded 18 kills and 14 assists overall, with Onolee Easterbrook adding three kills and Lezly McComber contributing a solo block. The Hawks were most productive offensively in the opening set, collecting six kills.
While the Bengals combined for 35 kills and hit .266 as a team.
The Hawks will look to build on Tuesday's performance as they continue non-conference play later this week.
