Andrew MacKay grabbed a pair of goals against Morrisville
Box Score

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Andrew MacKay's two goals provided Hilbert College with 50% of their offense in the Hawks NEAC semi-final loss April 30th to Morrisville State.  The Mustangs took a two-game season sweep over Hilbert after their 9-4 post-season victory.  Hilbert ended their season at 8-5 while the hosts (13-3) move to the championship game to face Keuka College (13-0) who dominated play in the other semifinal game and beat Medaille 17-7 today.

Morrisville opened the game by dominating the shooting statistics but Hilbert did an about-face and controlled the pace in the second quarter.  The hosts held a 10-1 shots advantage early and Hilbert reversed numbers with a 10-3 lead.  The final two quarters were almost identical with Morrisville holding a 9-8 shot jump.  Overall, Morrisville held a 20-19 shots-on-goal tally over the Hawks.

Morrisville controlled the face-off circle with a 12-4 win-rate though Hilbert held onto the ball with seven fewer turnovers than the hosts.

Rookie of the Year, Brenden Deady was credited with 11 saves, posting his 8th double-digit save game.

Morrisville took a 3-0 lead to the end of the first quarter and survived Hilbert's offensive onslaught in the second quarter by outscoring the Hawks 2-1.  Andrew MacKay netted his first unassisted goal less than three minutes into the second period to cut the score to 3-1.  But the Mustangs stretched their lead with back-to-back hits less than sixty-seconds apart to take a 5-1 half time lead.

Morrisville posted four more goals before Drew Ulbrich (Doug Takac assist) hit Hilbert's first of three man-up goals sending both teams to the final session with the Hawks trailing 9-2.  Hilbert tallied twice in the fourth quarter. MacKay took another Takac pass to frame at 6:33, and then he helped Tyler Nicoloff net at 2:14 for the final 9-4 score.

The Hawks improved their shooting percentage and they improved on defense with a higher save rate and a lower goals-per-game stat than one season ago.  The 2014 team over-achieved on the field after losing five of their 2013-scoring leaders from a team that made it to the NEAC championship game.
