Men's Lacrosse Takes 12-6 Non-conference Win

Brenden Deady Makes a Stop Between the Pipes
Box Score
HAMBURG, N.Y. – Nine different players scored for Hilbert College as they defeated Thiel College 12-6 in a non-conference men's lacrosse game today.  Hilbert improved to 5-3 and dropped the Tomcats to 5-4 overall.

Matthew Simon scored and assisted twice while Drew Ulbrich and Doug Takac found the back of the net two times each.  Nick Kieffer went 11-19 in face-off wins and shared game-high honors in ground balls with nine.

Both goalies reached double figure saves with Hilbert's Brenden Deady making some great stops late in the game.  The rookie finished with 13 saves, just three more than Thiel's Ryan Weldon.

Statistically, it was a closer game on paper than on the score board.  The Hawks held slight advantages in shots (43-37), in face-off wins (11-10) and in clears (15-12).  But the Hawks were more aggressive to the ball scooping up nine more ground balls (43-32).

Hilbert held an advantage in man-up situations but only scored on three of the 15 opportunities.

The Hawks took a 2-1 lead after one quarter.  The teams matched each other's offensive effort in the 2nd quarter with four goals each.  Hilbert turned it on in the third session hitting the Tomcats up for four more goals while holding them to just one.  Hilbert finished the game with a pair of goals in the fourth quarter to take the 12-6 victory at home.

The Hawks return to action April 16 when they travel to Wells College for a NEAC contest beginning at 4pm.
