ELMIRA, N.Y. – The 11^th ranked Elmira College men's volleyball team held on for a 3-1 win after the visiting Hawks challenged early in the match.  Adam Weaver continued with this strong and impressive hitting thanks to the confident play of his teammates who continued to hustle throughout the road match.

Elmira squeaked to a (25-22) first set victory before Hilbert took control in the second set for their 25-20 win.  The Soaring Eagles reclaimed their rhythm and coasted to a 25-14 third win and used blocking at the net for the fourth set (25-17) win.

Adam Weaver led all hitters with 25 kills in 54 attempts (.204).  Andrew Duncan, Korey Schwab and Andrew Wolbert chipped in six kills each.  David Mellerski focused his efforts as a setter tonight completing 39 assists freeing Ryan Ratajczak to concentrate his skills as the libero collecting 16 digs. 

Mellerski was credited with seven digs just one more than Weaver's effort.  Andrew Duncan and Adam Zientek were a-tough tandem as they had critical blocks in the first set that put the scare in Elmira.

Elmira finished the match with 41 kills (.194) and 38 assists.  They earned six points off service aces and gave away 10 points by way of missed serves.  The Soaring Eagles tallied 11.5 blocks in four sets.

Hilbert finished the night with 45 kills (.107) and 43 assists.  Zientek earned the Hawks solo service ace but the Hawks gave away 15 points in service errors.  Weaver and Wolbert worked for the only other assisted block tallied by the Hawks.

Hilbert returns to action this weekend when they host the #1 ranked team in Division III this year.  Juniata comes to town for a tri-match with the Hawks and Penn State Altoona.  Hilbert will play Juniata at 2pm.  Juniata and Altoona will face each other after an Altoona warm-up period and the day ends with the Hawks and Altoona battling again (around 6pm).

Prior to the Altoona game, the men's volleyball program will honor senior Adam Weaver in his last home game of his four-year career at Hilbert.  Don't miss it!
