KEUKA PARK, N.Y. –
Adam Weaver had a monster day at the net clipping 55 kills,
David Mellerski had a hand in 83% of the team's assists and
Ryan Ratajczak was credited with 45 digs for Hilbert College in their two volleyball games today. The Hawks opened the day with a five-set victory over Wells College and suffered a 3-0 loss to Keuka College.
Hilbert started the day slowly against Wells losing the first two sets (25-18, 25-17). The Hawks turned it around the next three sets (25-22, 25-15 and 15-12) and claimed the match to improve to 6-22 on the season.
Weaver and
Korey Schwab combined for 41 kills with Schwab getting credit for 11. Mellerski assists 35 times and
Ryan Ratajczak chipped in eight assists that he paired with a game-high 24 digs. Mellerski also contributed defensively with 14 digs.
Andrew Duncan had a great game at the net earning five solo blocks, three more than Weaver.
The Hawks earned three services aces but they gave away 18 points in service errors.
Later, Hilbert challenged Keuka the second two games after losing the first 25-18. The Storm struggled to hold off the Hawks and fought for their 25-23,27-25 victory.
Weaver again went to town at the net with 25 kills (.455) and chipped in 11 digs. Mellerski assisted on 26 of the team's 38 assists. Ratajczak again led with 21 digs. Schwab earned a double double with 10 kills and 13 digs in the loss.
For the day, Weaver ended with 6.88 kills/set (.345) and 2.5 digs/set.
Korey Schwab with 2.62 k/s and 2.75 d/s. Mellierski averaged 8.8 assists/set and second best 2.88 d/s. Ratajczak gave the Hawks 5.62 digs/s and Duncan with 1.0 blocks/s.
The Hawks (6-23, 1-9) have a few days off before they travel to Elmira College and play in their final United Volleyball Conference league game March 26. Hilbert will celebrate their final home match when they host a tri-match with Juniata and Penn State Altoona March 29.
The Hawks will also honor
Adam Weaver in his final home game in his four year career. He currently leads Division III in Kills per set and Points per Set and after today's games, he should have a strong hold on repeating his 2013 Division III title.
