CAMBRIDGE, MA – In their toughest day of competition played to date, the Hilbert College men's volleyball team feel twice today to two of the top ranked teams in Division III volleyball.
Hilbert started the day with a straight set loss to #9 NYU (25-13, 25-20,26-24) and ended the afternoon with another loss to #11 Stevens (25-15,25-12,25-17).
Adam Weaver averaged 3.83 kills per set and
Korey Schwab led the team with 13 digs.
Adam Heftka averaged 5.67 assists per set and led the Hawks with two solo blocks.
NYU took the first match after hitting .346 percentage with 39 team kills while they held the Hawks to 25 kills (.191).
Adam Weaver earned game-high honors with 14 kills and
Korey Schwab added eight kills paired with six digs and one service ace.
David Mellerski led the Hawks with eight digs and added two assists helping
Adam Heftka who passed for 19 assists.
Stevens was just too tough at the net after earning 41 kills (.442) and 30 assisted blocks. The Ducks were not very successful behind the service line as they were credited with 16 service errors, giving the Hawks those points.
Hilbert finished with 17 kills, led by
Adam Weaver's nine, hich marked his first match this season where he didn't reach double digits.
Korey Schwab and
Ryan Ratajczak each reached seven digs and
Adam Heftka assisted 15 times with the team's only solo block.
Hilbert returns to action tomorrow when they battle Bard College at 10:30 before returning to Hamburg.
