Hawks Fall to the fifth-ranked Golden Flyers

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's volleyball team played host to the fifth-ranked Nazareth College, who swept the Hawks 3-0. Hilbert dropped to 4-16 (0-6 UVC) after the 25-22, 25-15, 25-18 loss.

After a weekend of negative-hitting, Adam Weaver was able to post a .556 attack percentage on his way to 16 kills through the three sets. Weaver also added two digs and an assist.

David Mellerski contributed 7 kills on his .333 attack percentage while Korey Schwab led the Hawks with 10 digs and had Hilbert's only solo block of the night. Adam Heftka had 23 of Hilbert's 30 assists and added two kills of his own. Ryan Ratajczak finished with five digs and three assists.

Ten of Nazareth's players recorded a kill, with Tim Zyburt's 18 kills with a .556 attack percentage. Luke Lawatsch managed 9 kills with three assisted blocks, while Shawn Calnan had five kills and two assisted blocks. Nick McDonagh and Cody Nelson each had double-digit assists – 20, 15 respectively.

As a team, Nazareth hit .402, compared to Hilbert's .241. The Hawks struggled against the strong net presence of the Golden Flyers who had three solo blocks and another 14 assisted blocks.

The Golden Flyers took control of all three sets early. The Hawks had their largest lead of the night in the third set (11-9) but Nazareth's Cody Nelson was able to serve the Golden Flyers back to a four point lead (15-11), in which they never looked back.

Hilbert heads to Penn State Altoona this Sunday to face the host at 11:00am followed by Penn State Behrend at 1:00pm.
