HAMBURG, NY – The Hilbert College men's basketball program 'survived and advances' to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's (AMCC) championship weekend after their 90-73 1st Round victory over Pitt-Greensburg February 25th.

With the win, the #3 Hawks improved to 20-6 overall and will join  #1 Penn State Behrend, #2 Medaille and #4 Pitt-Bradford in an exciting night of semi-final competition Friday, February 28 in Erie, Pa.

Penn State Behrend, as the number-one seeded team, will host the tournament for the first time since the 2007-08 season.  The Lions face Pitt-Bradford in the 6pm game while Medaille and Hilbert take the floor in an 8pm tip.

Hilbert's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has organized a Fan Bus for students and faculty from Hilbert College.   The Niagara Scenic Provost bus (56 pass) will depart campus at 6pm Friday for the quick trip to Erie, Pa arriving in time for the 8pm tip.  The bus will depart soon after the completion of the game and return to campus.

Hilbert will provide the bus transportation at no cost to the students and faculty who make the trip but you must pre-register to hold a seat.  Run, don't walk, to Kelly Starchok's office (Hafner Rec. Center) and print your name on the sign-up sheet.

There is an admission charge to enter the tournament:  $5 per adult; $3 per senior citizen and $2 for students with college ID.

By the numbers:
·         This year's semi-final game at Penn State Behrend' campus marks the first-ever neutral-site contest between the two Western New York teams since joining the AMCC.

·         Hilbert and Medaille, as cross-town rivals have a long history of competition against each other.  Since 2004-05, when both institutions joined the AMCC league, Medaille has built a 14-7 series advantage over Hilbert.  For six straight games, spanning the 2004-5 season through the 2006-07 season, Hilbert held the upper hand in the early AMCC years.  The Mavericks had an answer to Hilbert's efforts the following six seasons taking victories each time.   Even last year in the AMCC semi-final game, Medaille stole the game from the Hawks for their three-game sweep in one year.  But this year, the Hawks broke the mold and captured their first win over the Mavericks in late January on Medaille's home court.
