HUNTINGDON, Pa - The Hilbert College men's volleyball team hit a brick wall Saturday when they competed against the #3 Juniata College and Marymont University. The Hawks, hit with an illness bug, dropped six-straight sets and fell to 4-15 overall.
David Mellerski's .467 attack percentage (eight kills) and 11 digs led the Hawks in the two matches.
Adam Weaver (11) and
Korey Schwab (10) led the Hawks in kills, but neither finished with positive hitting.
Adam Heftka was credited with 33 assists and two service aces while
Ryan Ratajczak gave Hilbert 12 defensive digs (2/s).
Andrew Wolbert and Heftka earned the Hawks' solo blocks.
Marymont's .348 attack percentage led to 41 kills while the Hawks finished with 28 kills. Weaver chipped in nine kills and Mellerski led with 10 digs in the 25-15, 28-26,25-23 loss. The second and third sets were exciting as neither team led by more than four points at any one time. Marymount's Bryce Ernsberger and Tomasz Ksiazkiewicz commanded the net with 22 and 10 kills respectively.
Juniata dominated the final match of the afternoon. The Eagles finished with 39 kills in 56 attempts and held the Hawks to a season-low 13 kills. Mellerski and Schwab led Hilbert with three kills each and Ratajczak matched their number in digs. The 13-2 hosts took a quick victory winning 25-12,25-10,25-12.
Hilbert returns to action this week when they host #5 Nazareth College Wednesday, February 26th (7pm).
