Four Hawks Score in Double-Digits in the 79-61 Win

Box Score

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Even after the Winter Storm Knife prevented the Hilbert College men's basketball team from hosting their annual tip-off tournament this past weekend, the Hawks did not skip a beat and rolled to a 79-61 win over Elmira College. Jordan Kumro led all scorers with 18 points, while three other Hawks finished in double-digits.

The first ten minutes were all about the home team as five Hawks propeled the team to a 19-7 lead. Elmira bounced back with a 12-5 run of their own and cut the deficit to five but it did not last long. Jordan Kumro knocked down one of his four three-pointers at the 3:53 mark to give the Hawks an eleven-point lead. The Hawks maintained that margin and went into the break ahead 43-34.

To begin the second half, Jerame Owens and Jordan Kumro continued their strong shooting to combat Elmira's offensive attack. Two long-range buckets by Elmira cut the Hilbert lead to five with 15:43 remaining. That was the closest the Soaring Eagles would come to the Hawks as Hilbert went on an 18-6 run, capped off by a Sean Weisansal lay-up. Trevor Stark used a fast break lay-up to give Hilbert their largest lead of the night at 20 points. Hilbert finished the game on top, 79-61.

Jerame Owens pulled down a team-high seven rebounds to go along with his 15 points on 6-8 shooting (three steals). Trevor Stark's game-high five assists were just part of his complete performance of 14 points and four steals. Weisansal added 14 points and three assists.  Xavier Major compiled six caroms, five points, four assists, and two steals in thirty minutes of action.

Gino Leonardi led Elmira off the bench as he finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.

The Hawks outrebounded the Soaring Eagles 36-31 and scored more points in the paint (34-24), off turnovers (17-14) and off second-chances (12-7). The Hawks had the home-court shooting advantage as they bettered Elmira 49.2% to 40.7% from the floor and 92.3%-63.3% from the free throw line.

The Hawks (2-0) travel to Alfred University this Saturday, November 29th, for a 2:00pm tip-off.
