Botsford Leads Hawks Against Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. – It was a slow start for the Hawks volleyball team who traveled to Pitt-Bradford for an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match October 7. Senior Jordan Botsford, who broke the 1,000 dig mark over the weekend, tacked on 16 more digs while adding 15 kills and two solo blocks as Hilbert fell to the Panthers (9-17, 3-1) in four sets.

Sophomore Amanda Binder tossed in 13 kills (.345) and sophomore Morgan Ott reached for 12 digs. Senior Kayla Lewis quarterbacked the offense with 27 assists.

Bradford was led by Taylor McMillen's 18 kills and .500 hitting percentage.

Hilbert fell behind early dropping the opening set (25-14), before they responded in the second. The Hawks and Panthers played a back-and-forth scoring set, and the hosts rallied late to steal a 25-22 win.

The third game belonged to Hilbert as they jumped out to a 14-11 lead and separated the score further till the final 25-17 win.

Bradford roared back and held a 20-15 lead late in the fourth set and extended it to a 25-16 match victory.

Hilbert (2-18, 0-4) will host their first tri-match of the season this Saturday, October 11. The Hawks will battle the University of Rochester at 11 am. Rochester and Hiram face each other at 1pm and Hiram sticks around for a rematch with Hilbert at 3pm.

Next Wednesday, October 15th the women's volleyball team will host their annual Pink-Out night and invite all fans to wear pink gear to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness when they host Penn State Behrend at 7pm.
