BUFFALO, N.Y. – The double "B's" were alive at the net for Hilbert College as the Hawks earned their first AMCC win of the season October 21 at D'Youville College.  Amanda Binder and Jordan Botsford hit well and controlled the offense for the visitors, driving Hilbert to a 3-0 match sweep to improve to 3-24 on the year.  The Spartans fell to 8-14 and continue to search for their first AMCC victory.

In a tightly played match, Hilbert pulled through in two closely-scored opening and closing set and cruised in the middle for 25-22, 25-15, 25-23 scores.

Hilbert opened the first set with a sizable lead, building their largest separation at 18-11 off D'Youville hitting errors.  Botsford and Kayla Lewis' kills closed the match to give Hilbert 25 points first.  The Hawks played a stronger second set, earning a majority of their points off Hilbert kills or service aces.  Lewis, Botsford and Binder carried the Hawks home to a 10-point victory.

And the third set started much like the two previous games, with Hilbert building a big cushion (14-3) which forced a Spartan timeout.  Momentum changed and D'Youville crept back, cutting the score to 14-9 before Botsford connected for a kill. Hilbert stretched their lead back to 17-13 and called a timeout to cool D'Youville's rally. Each team traded points, until the Hawks grabbed two in a row (22-16).  D'Youville cut it back down to three points (24-21) and then posted back-to-back kills forcing Hilbert to call their second timeout of the match.  D'Youville then committed a service error which gave the visitors a 25-23 set/match win.

Amanda Binder (11) and Jordan Botsford (10) each finished with double digit kills and only two hitting errors.  Kayla Lewis came through with timely kills to build a game-total eight for the match. Morgan Ott connected on 26 of the team's 28 assists with Lewis getting credit for the other two.  All six starters reached for five or more digs with Chelsea Adamski leading the way with eight for Hilbert.  Lewis (3), Binder (2), Kaitlyn Murphy (2) and Ott (1) combined for four team blocks.

Hilbert returns to AMCC play when they travel this weekend to Pittsburgh, Pa.  The Hawks will battle Pitt-Greensburg at 1 pm and then La Roche, (3:30 pm) October 25.  Hilbert  hosts their final non-conference match next week, Tuesday, Oct 28 (Alfred U) and will close-out their season on November 1 against Mount Aloysius College at 11 am.

The program will also celebrate their three seniors (Jordan Botsford, Kayla Lewis and Kaitlyn Murphy) against Mount Aloysius.
