GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Hilbert Hawks showed resiliency on Saturday afternoon, rallying to force a fourth set after dropping the opening two, but ultimately fell to Pitt.-Greensburg 3-1 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match up inside Chambers Hall.
After the hosts claimed the first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-12, Hilbert responded with its strongest volleyball of the match in the third frame. The Hawks totaled nine kills and limited their errors, pulling away late for a 25-22 victory to extend the contest.
The fourth set featured the most competitive action of the afternoon, with six tie scores and three lead changes. Hilbert battled point-for-point with Pitt.-Greensburg and held the set within reach throughout, but the Bobcats edged out a 25-23 win to secure the match.
Leading the Hawks offensively was Meghan Balen, who posted a team-high seven kills while hitting .353 and added four total blocks. Onolee Easterbrook contributed six kills and three block assists, while Lindsay Madigan recorded a well-rounded performance with five kills, a match-high 30 assists, 15 digs, and three blocks.
Jade Schiller anchored the back row with a team-best 24 digs, while Riley O'Neill added five kills, eight digs, and two service aces. Lezly McComber and Madigan each finished with five kills as Hilbert totaled 36 kills in the match.
Defensively, the Hawks recorded 76 digs and 14 total blocks, keeping several extended rallies alive throughout the contest.
