Hawks Defeat Carlow in Four Sets for First AMCC Win

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert Hawks earned an important Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory Tuesday evening, defeating Carlow University in four sets (25-19, 25-14, 29-31, 25-21) inside the Brad Hafner Recreation Center.

Hilbert came out strong, controlling the opening two sets behind an efficient offensive attack and solid defensive play. The Hawks hit .244 in the first set and followed with a .219 hitting percentage in the second while limiting Carlow to a combined -.009 attack percentage through the first two frames.

The third set proved to be the match's turning point. In a back-and-forth battle that featured 14 tie scores and seven lead changes, the Celtics narrowly escaped with a 31-29 victory to extend the match.

Hilbert responded in the fourth set, taking control late and closing out the 25-21 win to secure the conference victory. The Hawks finished the night with 58 kills, 54 assists, 91 digs, and six service aces.

Lezly McComber led the Hawks offensively with a match-high 14 kills while posting a .346 hitting percentage. Jordan Austin added 11 kills and 10 digs for a double-double, while Meghan Balen contributed 12 points on nine kills and three service aces.

At setter, Lindsay Madigan orchestrated the offense with 43 assists and added 13 digs. Defensively, Jade Schiller paced all players with 20 digs, while Piper Mason chipped in 12 digs.
