HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert Hawks came out strong on Saturday morning, claiming the opening set, but visiting Penn State Altoona would take the next three sets and earn a 3-1 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory inside the Brad Hafner Recreation Center. The Hawks fell by scores of 25-17, 15-25, 18-25, and 13-25.
Hilbert (5-12, 0-4 AMCC) set the tone early, hitting .259 in the first frame while limiting Penn State Altoona to a .143 attack percentage on the way to a convincing eight-point set victory. Hilbert was led offensively by Jordan Austin, who posted a team-high 10 kills while adding 12 digs for a double-double performance.
Lindsay Madigan directed the Hawks' offense with 24 assists, four service aces, five kills, and nine digs. Lezly McComber added nine kills, while Meghan Balen turned in an efficient outing with six kills on a .400 hitting percentage and contributed two blocks.
Defensively, Jade Schiller paced Hilbert with a match-high 17 digs. Austin added 12 digs, and Madigan chipped in nine as the Hawks totaled 58 digs on the day. Onolee Easterbrook led the net defense with three total blocks, including two solo stops.
Penn State Altoona (10-5, 3-1 AMCC) continued to build momentum throughout the match, recording a .225 team hitting percentage and finishing with 45 kills.
