Stark's 35 Points Help Hawks to 7-1 AMCC Record

GREENSBURG, Pa – After building a 13 point half-time lead, the Hilbert College men's basketball team held on for an 90-82 Allegheny Mountain College Conference road win over Pitt-Greensburg January 18. 

Trevor Stark led all scorers with 35 points and 5 assists from the perimeter while Jerame Owens controlled the paint finishing with his tenth double double of the season (18 points and 14 rebounds).

CJ Hodge posted 12 points (4 assists, 3 steals) and Ryan Brandt added 10 points, making five of his seven attempts in 15 minutes off the bench.

Greensburg had four players reach double figures led by Rocco Contristano's 17 points as the Bobcats fell to 4-3 in the AMCC. 

Greensburg finished with a better shooting percentage than Hilbert (50.8% vs. 46.0%) but the Hawks sank nine 3-point field goals and 23 shots from the charity stripe.  Trevor Stark made eight shots from beyond the arc and 11 foul shots (of 14 attempts) for Hilbert.  The Bobcats made only five long distance shots and attempted only 20 fouls shots making 15.

Hilbert held the advantage on the glass out-rebounding the hosts by nine, but killed the Bobcats on the offensive boards pulling in 17 offensive rebounds.  Greensburg was whistled for a lopsided 28-foul count to Hilbert's 16.

The Hawks bench matched Greensburg bench in scoring (18 points) with Nehemiah Kornegay chipping in 8 points along with Brandt's 10.  Xavier Major (5 points) and Ryan Brewster (2 points) completed the Hawks scoring.
 
Greensburg opened the game on fire, scoring on their first four possessions to take an early 9-0 lead, which Hilbert matched by the 15:00 minute mark.  The Hawks continued to roll to a 47-34 half time lead. 
 
The Bobcats fought back in the second half, cutting the lead to one point but Hilbert got back on track again.  Hilbert extended the lead to 14 points before the hosts began to foul with just less than two minutes remaining.  Hilbert sank 10 of 16 free throws down the stretch for their 12th win of the season.
 
The Hawks (7-1 in AMCC) have a big week ahead of them.  They host Penn State Behrend (6-1) who also shares a 12-2 overall record, January 20 at 6pm for the right to be the #1 team in league.  Then, on Thursday, January 23rd D'Youville College pays a visit to Hamburg a few days before Franciscan University comes to town for a 2pm game January 25th.
