Hilbert Earns AMCC Win At D'Youville

Trevor Stark Reaches For Three
Box Score
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Besides Trevor Starks game high scoring honors (21 points), the Hilbert College men's basketball team used a very balanced effort with all 16 players filling the stat-sheet as the Hawks claimed an 84-64 AMCC victory over D'Youville College January 9. Hilbert improved to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in league play, sitting in a tie for 2nd place, while they dropped the Spartans to 0-12 (0-5).

D'Youville's Julian Reed carried his team producing career highs and earning his first triple-double: 21 points, 11 rebounds and 10 block shots.

Twelve of Hilbert's players found their way into the scoring column with eight Hawks netting five points or more. Besides Stark, no one else reached double-digit scoring.

Ryan Brant, who has seen limited action this year, came off the bench and went 3 for 4 while grabbing 3 rebounds in 12 minutes of play. Jerame Owens pulled in 13 rebounds, earning 5 offensive boards which mirrored teammate Ryan Brewster efforts. CJ Hodge was credited with 6 of the Hawks' 16 assists on the night.

Hilbert gained control of the league game from the 3-point line as the Hawks made 8 of their 19 attempts beyond the arc. Trevor Stark led the charge hitting 50% of his attempts (3 for 6).

Hilbert held a one point lead by the break (34-33) and allowed the Spartans to hang around almost 12 minutes clicked off the game clock in the second half. At 8:24, Hilbert finally built a 10-point lead which forced D'Youville to call a timeout. From that point in the game, the Hawks went on a 19-7 run to take a commanding 80-58 lead with 2:07 remaining and coasted to victory.

The men's basketball team returns to action this weekend when they host back-to-back games on Saturday (1pm vs. Mount Aloysius) and Sunday (2pm vs. La Roche).
