HOUGHTON, N.Y. – What a difference a day makes for the Hilbert women's volleyball team. The Hawks added two wins to their overall record after they played to a shut-out victory over Wells College and a five-set win over Alfred State.
Hilbert improved to 12-18 with the non-conference wins and with only two Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference games remaining on the schedule, they can just focus their attention on AMCC play-offs.
Playing with more confidence today, the Hawks took a quick three-set win against Wells (25-19,25-19,25-20).
Allegra Johnson continued her hitting presence at the net leading all players with 14 kills (.417). Junior
Kayla Lewis gave a strong performance chipping in eight kills (.316). Four Hilbert players distributed double-digit digs, led by
Jordan Botsford's 17.
Ashley Viengmay had 15 digs and
Chelsea Adamski was credited with 11 digs in the two sets she played.
Shannon Memminger, besides her 10 digs, had 30 assists and three service aces.
For the second time in two days, Hilbert played in a five-set match, but this time they closed the game with purpose and captured a 3-2 decision over Alfred State (17-25, 25-21, 20-25, 26-24, 15-8).
Jordan Botsford and
Allegra Johnson were deadly up top with 13 and 12 kills each.
Kayla Lewis and
Amanda Binder were contributors with nine kills. Conditioning played a big part in the Hawks success as the game wore on. Five of the starters finished with double-digit digs led by
Chelsea Reischuck's 20. Johnson had 19 digs, Botsford picked up 18, Lewis added 15 and Memminger chipped in 14. Lewis also added a game-high five blocks for Hilbert.
At the conclusion of the Invitational, an All-Tournament team was announced and Hilbert's
Shannon Memminger was recognized for her contribution to the team's success this weekend.
Hilbert has a grip on third place in the AMCC standings with a 5-2 record as they head into the last week of contests. The Hawks host Pitt-Bradford Wednesday, October 30 and complete their regular season Saturday, November 2 against Franciscan University (Senior Day). With a few scenarios left to play-out, it is still too early to determine the seeding for the AMCC play-offs, which begin November 6.
