Volleyball Sits in Third Place In AMCC Standings

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Freshman Amanda Binder continues her tear at the net for Hilbert College even in their 3-1 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference loss at Medaille College in women's volleyball October 22.

The rookie finished with game-high attack percentages as the only Hawk to reach double digit kills. With the defeat, Hilbert (10-16 overall) dropped into a two-way tie for third place with Altoona with the 5-2 AMCC record. Medaille moved up a slot into a two-way tie for fifth place with Pitt-Bradford (3-3 AMCC).

Medaille was consistent in their play each set, finishing with better offensive stats than the Hawks (49 – 43 kills, .229% - .185%). The Mavericks took set one (25-16) before the visitors reached for .400% at the net in a 25-16 victory to even the series. Hilbert just couldn't pull the road win together in the last two sets which were won by Medaille (25-22).

Binder collected 11 kills (one error) in 19 attempts and one solo block. It was a battle of play-makers with Hilbert's Shannon Memminger assisting 35 times (40 team kills) while Medaille's Simmone Talford finished with one more pass (36).

Chelsea Reischuck produced 18 digs for Hilbert and added eight kills. Also playing defense was Jordan Botsford who was credited with 12 digs and five kills.

Reaching for seven kills each were Kayla Lewis (7 digs) and Allegra Johnson (8 digs).

The Mavericks were led by Marlena Clotfelter's 14 kills. Jenna Cleversley added 13 kills and earned game-high 23 digs.

The Hawks travel this weekend to the Highlander Invitational and are scheduled to open up against the hosts, Houghton College, at 6pm on the October 25. That match can be viewed on their streaming video channel by clicking (here) and locating the game. Hilbert ends the day with a contest against SUNY Canton at 8pm. Saturday morning, October 26 the Hawks play back-to-back beginning at 12pm against Wells College then Alfred State College.
