HAMBURG, NY: The crowd of family and friends of the five seniors on the men's team could not have asked for a better fall day to watch soccer.
Michael Gee,
Jeremy Kraska,
Edward Minkel,
Josh Walsh-Steines, and
Yonis Osman were the Hawks that were honored. Despite an evenly matched game, Penn State Altoona left with a three game lead in the AMCC standings with a 2-1 win over the Hawks.
The Hawks started out on the attack with
Matt Hamister and
Jon Davison getting off a few near goal shots. But it was Altoona that started the scoring spree, which consisted of three goals in fifteen minutes. With 17 minutes left in the half, Quinn Oyler netted the first goal. The Hawks were trying to clear the ball out of the box but Oyler was able to connect for his fifth goal of the season. Ten minutes later, the Lion's had a corner kick that was cleared by
Austin Mathis which led to another corner. This time Altoona was able to find the back of the net as Matthew MacCrory tapped it to Karl Stephan for what turned out to be the game winning goal. The Hawks immediately turned around and Jon Davison drove down the right sideline and found the lower left corner off a pass from
Matt Hamister. The half ended with a score of 2-1
The second-half was a physical battle but both teams remained scoreless. The Hawks held Altoona to four shots in the second half after giving up 14 in the first. With three minutes to go senior
Michael Gee had a chance to tap it in, but Lion's keeper Aaron Ballish came up with a big save. The Hawks continued pressuring Altoona and with under a minute to go, the Hawks had two corner kicks, that led to scoring chances but the Hawks could not find the back of the net. Both teams finished with 18 shots. Kraska finished with 8 saves in the loss.
Hilbert is back at it on Tuesday, as they face D'Youville for their final home game of the season at 1pm.
