BRADFORD, PA — Hilbert College Men's Soccer battled wire-to-wire but came up just short on the road Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 2–1 decision to Pitt-Bradford at the Kessel Athletic Complex.
Senior midfielder
Carter Burke provided the Hawks' lone goal in the 38th minute, on an outstanding solo effort to equalize after Pitt-Bradford took an early lead. Burke collected the ball at midfield and dribbled past multiple Panther defenders before placing the ball in the bottom corner of the net for his sixth goal of the year.
Despite a strong defensive effort and several quality scoring chances in the second half, Hilbert was unable to overcome a late Panthers tally in the 84th minute.
Pitt-Bradford struck first in the 30th minute on an unfortunate bounce for the Hawks that saw the ball deflect off a Hilbert defender and into the net. Burke's response less than eight minutes later, however, swung momentum back toward the Hawks heading into halftime tied 1–1.
The Hawks continued to create chances late, including a near-go-ahead strike from
Stephen Winans off the right post in the 78th minute. But Pitt-Bradford capitalized on a counterattack in the final six minutes when Brady Hathaway scored the game-winner, assisted by Holden Kelly.
Hilbert (4-6-3, 1-4-2 AMCC) matched the Panthers shot-for-shot, with both sides recording 13 attempts and five on goal.
Goalkeeper
Nikolas D'Andrea turned aside three shots in 90 minutes of play, while Pitt-Bradford's Christopher House finished with four saves to preserve the win.
