ALFRED, N.Y. – Hilbert College Women's Soccer continued non-conference play this evening with a trip to Yunevich Stadium to take on Alfred University. The Hawks and Saxons played a scoreless opening 70 minutes, but a pair of late goals by the hosts resulted in a 2-0 Hilbert defeat.
The squads battled through a scoreless first half, with Hilbert goalkeeper
Keira McFarland making five saves to keep the match even heading into the break. Hilbert earned three corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes and looked to create opportunities on the attacking end.
McFarland continued her strong play after halftime, adding four more saves as the Hawks kept the contest within reach deep into the second half. Alfred finally broke through however, as a 71st minute goal off a corner kick opened the scoring. The Saxons would double the advantage just over six minutes later and eventually hold on for the 2-0 victory.
The Hilbert defense continued to battle throughout the match, backstopped by McFarland who finished with nine saves in net.
