GREENVILLE, Pa. – Hilbert College Women's Soccer battled Thiel this afternoon at Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field in non-conference action. After falling behind 2-0, the Hawks cut the deficit in half, but the hosting Tomcats would add a third goal in the second half for the 3-1 victory.
Hilbert generated nine shots, placed five on target, and remained within striking distance throughout the contest behind contributions from several players on the offensive end.
The hosts opened the scoring in the eighth minute and added a second goal in the 38th minute to take a 2-0 lead in the first half. The Hawks responded just over three minutes later when
Ja'Lynn Sanders found
Novalee Schlenker at the back post, where she would find the back of the net in the 41st minute, trimming the deficit to 2-1 heading into halftime.
Schlenker's goal capped a strong close to the opening half for Hilbert, which recorded six shots before the break and entered the locker room trailing by just one.
The Hawks continued to push for an equalizer in the second half, but Thiel added a goal in the 51st minute to restore a two-goal advantage. Hilbert created several opportunities during the remainder of the match, including chances from
Valentina Hauser and Sanders, but was unable to find the net again.
Hauser led the Hawks with three shots, including two on goal. Schlenker scored on one of her two attempts, while Sanders added an assist and a shot on goal. In net,
Keira McFarland recorded six saves.
