HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Women's Soccer hosted Keuka this afternoon for the Hawks' home opener. Hilbert erased a two-goal first-half deficit with a pair of late goals before halftime, but Keuka scored early in the second half and held on for a 3-2 victory Wednesday evening at Hawk Field.
The Wolves built a 2-0 advantage with goals in the eighth and 22nd minutes, while Hilbert worked to create opportunities through the opening half. The Hawks generated six first-half shots and continued to press despite the early deficit.
Hilbert's comeback began in the 43rd minute when
Ja'Lynn Sanders found the back of the net off an assist from
Acadia Evans, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Less than a minute later, the Hawks drew even when a Keuka own goal tied the match at 2-2 heading into halftime.
The momentum was short-lived, however, as Keuka regained the lead in the 51st minute with what proved to be the game-winning goal. Hilbert continued to battle throughout the second half and produced shots from
Evin Stauffer and
Dayna Durmaj, but was unable to find the equalizer.
Goalkeeper
Keira McFarland kept the Hawks within striking distance throughout the match, recording 10 saves while facing 22 shots and 13 shots on goal. Seven of her saves came in the second half.
Sanders led the offense with three shots and a goal, while Stauffer recorded two shots. Evans picked up her first assist of the season on the Sanders goal.
