Hawks Split with Mounties at Home

HAMBURG N.Y. — Hilbert College Baseball hosted Mount Aloysius in an AMCC doubleheader at FSSJ Field on Friday afternoon. The Hawks dropped a narrow 5–3 decision in the opener before responding with a 6–2 victory in game two to earn the split.

Game One: Mt. Aloysius 5 – Hilbert 3
Hilbert manufactured an early run in the bottom of the first to grab the initial lead in game one. After Shane Pray reached base and advanced into scoring position, Jude Khoury drew a bases‑loaded walk to force in the game's first run.

The Hawks threatened again in the second and third innings but were unable to capitalize, leaving runners on base. Mount Aloysius eventually broke through in the fourth inning, stringing together hits to plate two runs and take a 2–1 lead.

Hilbert answered in the bottom of the fifth. Harley Hoag singled to lead off the inning and later scored on an RBI base hit from Patrick Evans, evening the game at two. The Mounties responded in the sixth, using a sacrifice fly to edge back in front, 3–2.

In the bottom of the sixth, Reed Lesmeister doubled to left field and eventually came around to score on a defensive miscue, knotting the contest once again and energizing the home dugout.
After a scoreless seventh inning sent the game into extras, Mount Aloysius delivered the decisive blow in the eighth inning, taking advantage of baserunners to score two runs and regain control at 5–3. Hilbert made one final push in the bottom of the frame, putting a runner aboard, but Mount Aloysius was able to close out the opener.

Andrew Johnson went the distance on the mound for Hilbert, striking out eight batters while allowing just one walk. Lesmeister finished with a double and a run scored, while Evans drove in a run.

Game Two: Hilbert 6 – Mt. Aloysius 2
Hilbert wasted no time flipping the script in the nightcap, getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Joey Haynes led off with a double to right field and advanced to third before Patrick Evans lifted a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home the opening run.

The Hawks added to their lead in the second. Reed Lesmeister reached on an error, moved into scoring position, and crossed the plate on a run‑scoring single from John Watson, giving Hilbert a 2–0 edge.

Mount Aloysius responded in the third, taking advantage of an error and timely hitting to score two unearned runs and pull even at two. From there, Hilbert starter Gregory Lowry settled in, and the Hawks regained momentum with steady offensive pressure.

In the fourth, Watson and Alex Ellison reached base to start the inning, setting the stage for David Earsing, who roped an RBI single to left field to reclaim the lead.

The Hawks broke the game open in the sixth with another two-run inning to double the lead. Ellison delivered an RBI single to extend the lead, and moments later Jackson Amann stole home to push the advantage to 6–2.

Lowry wrapped up his complete game with a pair of strikeouts in the seventh to close out the split-salvaging victory for the Hawks. In seven innings, Lowry allowed a pair of unearned runs while striking out eight and walking one.

Watson finished a perfect 3‑for‑3 at the plate, Ellison collected two hits and an RBI, and Evans drove in a run for the second straight game as Hilbert closed out the win.
