Baseball Falls Twice to Bradford on the Road

BRADFORD, Pa. — Hilbert College Baseball wrapped up its three-game set against Pitt-Bradford with road doubleheader at Repchick Field this afternoon. After taking game one yesterday, the Hawks suffered a series defeat with a pair of losses to the Panthers today.

Game One: Pitt‑Bradford 7 – Hilbert 4
Hilbert came out fast in the opener, striking first with a two‑run bottom of the first inning. Joey Haynes and Patrick Evans set the table at the top of the order before Shane Pray and Harley Hoag helped bring both runners home to give the Hawks early momentum.

After Pitt‑Bradford answered with two runs in the second, Hilbert responded again in the bottom half as John Watson reached base and later scored on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of David Earsing, pushing the Hawks back in front. Hilbert added another run in the fourth when Haynes singled and scored on an RBI base hit from Evans, extending the lead to 4–2.

That advantage held until the sixth, when Pitt‑Bradford broke open the game. The Panthers sent nine batters to the plate, stringing together hits to produce a decisive five‑run inning that flipped the momentum. Hilbert worked traffic onto the bases in the final frames but was unable to cut further into the deficit.

Haynes finished the opener with a two‑hit, two‑run performance, while Evans and Ellison each collected multi‑hit games.

Alex Rumfola got the start and worked into the sixth inning before Ronald Mort provided a scoreless final 1.1 innings.

Game Two: Pitt‑Bradford 8 – Hilbert 4
The nightcap saw Pitt‑Bradford strike early, plating two runs in the first and adding two more in the second to grab control. Hilbert threatened in the early innings but was unable to generate a breakthrough against strong Panther pitching.

Pitt‑Bradford continued to build its lead through the middle innings, capitalizing on baserunners and extending the margin to 8–0 by the sixth. Hilbert, however, mounted a late comeback with runs in the final three frames.

The Hawks got on the board in the seventh when Harley Hoag and Reed Lesmeister reached base before Chase Porter lifted a sacrifice fly to score the first run of the game. Moments later, Alex Ellison delivered an RBI single to bring another run home. Hilbert added two more in the eighth and ninth frames, highlighted by RBI hits from Lesmeister and Evans, but Pitt‑Bradford closed the door to secure the sweep.

Lesmeister and Hoag each recorded multi‑hit performances in game two, while Evans drove in a pair of runs during the late push.

Gregory Lowry, Ryan Hilton, Jase Burdon, and Andrew Cole combined on the mound across the nine innings with Burdon and Cole providing scoreless outings to keep the Hawks alive late.

HILBERT HIGHLIGHTS
Haynes led the Hawks offensively across the doubleheader, scoring three runs while collecting three hits. Evans also turned in a productive day with four hits and three RBI spanning both games. Lesmeister added three hits and drove in a run.

UP NEXT
Hilbert returns to action on Monday with a non-conference doubleheader on the road against Keuka College. First pitch of game one is slated for 2 pm.
