JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — Hilbert College Baseball continued AMCC play this afternoon with a road doubleheader against Pitt-Greensburg at Sargent's Stadium. After falling 5-1 in game one, the Hawks salvaged a split with a dominant 12-5 victory in game two to improve to 3-1 in conference action.
Game One: Pitt‑Greensburg 5 – Hilbert 1
Hilbert struck first in the opening game, manufacturing a run in the top of the first inning.
Harley Hoag worked a walk and moved into scoring position before
Joey Haynes lined an RBI single to right center to give the Hawks an early 1–0 advantage. Pitt‑Greensburg responded in the bottom half with a run of its own, evening the score after the first frame.
The game remained tight through the middle innings, with both starting pitchers limiting scoring opportunities. Pitt‑Greensburg took advantage of timely hits in the third and fourth innings to build a narrow lead, then added two insurance runs in the sixth to pull away. Hilbert put runners on base throughout the contest, collecting eight hits, but struggled to convert momentum into runs.
Andrew Johnson delivered a solid start on the mound for the Hawks, working 5.2 innings while striking out nine.
David Earsing and Haynes each recorded two hits, while
Chase Porter added a single and a stolen base in the loss.
Game Two: Hilbert 12 – Pitt‑Greensburg 5
Hilbert wasted little time responding in game two, jumping out to an early lead in the first inning. After
Patrick Evans reached and moved into scoring position,
Joey Haynes delivered an RBI triple before scoring shortly after on a wild pitch to give the Hawks a 2–0 edge. After a scoreless second, the Hawks blew the game open in the third, adding six runs on four hits in the frame.
Austin Wasily highlighted the inning with a three‑run triple, while
David Earsing and Haynes added RBI base hits as the Hawks surged ahead 8–0.
Pitt‑Greensburg trimmed the deficit in the middle innings, but Hilbert answered again in the eighth with a four‑run frame to put the game out of reach.
Harley Hoag brought home Wasily with a sacrifice fly,
Patrick Evans launched a two‑run home run, and
Chase Porter followed with an RBI single.
Gregory Lowry earned the win, tossing seven strong innings while allowing just two runs. The bullpen duo of
Ryan Hilton and
Ronald Mort closed out the game. Offensively, Wasily paced the lineup with three hits and three RBI, Haynes finished with three hits and two RBI, and Evans drove in two while scoring three times as Hilbert totaled 12 hits in the contest.
