ALFRED, N.Y. — Hilbert College Baseball put together a dominant afternoon on the road Thursday, sweeping a doubleheader against Alfred with convincing 17–4 and 20–1 victories. The Hawks' offense produced 35 runs on 30 hits across the two games, while the pitching staff limited Alfred to nine total hits in the sweep.
Game One: Hilbert 17 – Alfred 4
Hilbert wasted no time setting the tone in the opener, striking for three runs in the first inning.
Harley Hoag opened the game with a double and later scored on a
Chase Porter fielder's choice.
Jude Khoury's single scored
Patrick Evans to double the lead, before Porter stole home to make at 3-0 after the top of the first.
The Hawks followed with a four‑run second inning, extending the lead with RBIs from Hoag,
Patrick Evans, and
Joey Haynes.
David Earsing stole home in the frame as well. Hilbert continued to apply pressure in the fourth and fifth innings, with Porter delivering three RBI,
Austin Wasily tripling in a run,
Alex Ellison adding an RBI double, and Khoury producing another RBI to push the advantage into double digits.
After Alfred scored four runs in the fifth, Hilbert responded emphatically with four runs in the seventh to close the scoring.
John Watson and
Austin Wasily each delivered RBI doubles in the frame, while
Dustin Hendrix added a run‑scoring hit by pitch to cap the offensive surge.
Jase Burdon earned the win on the mound, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just two hits.
Andre Borges and
Brody Hopkins each tossed scoreless outings, combining to strikeout three batters.
Porter led the offense with four RBI, while Hoag scored three runs and collected two hits. Wasily finished with two hits and two RBI, as Hilbert totaled 15 hits in the opener.
Game Two: Hilbert 20 – Alfred 1 (5 innings)
Hilbert carried its momentum directly into the nightcap scoring early and often to complete the sweep. The Hawks opened the game with two runs in the first inning and broke the contest open with a seven‑run third, sending 12 batters to the plate.
The third inning featured a flurry of run‑scoring plays, including RBI hits from
Chase Porter,
Jude Khoury,
Alex Ellison,
David Earsing, and
Harley Hoag. Hilbert continued to pile on in the fourth with six more runs, highlighted by a triple from
Reed Lesmeister and an RBI double from
Patrick Evans.
The Hawks saved their biggest swing for the fifth inning, when
Dustin Hendrix launched a grand slam down the left‑field line to punctuate a five‑run frame and push the lead to 20–1. Moments later, fog rolled in and forced an early end to the contest.
Kim‑Kubiak earned the win, allowing just one run over four innings while striking out five.
Andrew Cole followed with a scoreless fifth to seal the victory. Hilbert's defense was flawless in game two, committing no errors while Alfred was charged with six.
Porter finished the nightcap 3‑for‑4 with two RBI and a triple, while Earsing went 2‑for‑2 with two doubles and two RBI. Hendrix drove in four runs on his grand slam, and
Patrick Evans reached base three times and scored three runs. Twelve different Hawks crossed the plate in the victory.
